CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Organizations, whether public or private, rely heavily on communication to deliver their messages to target audiences or to reinforce their mission and objectives. Employees often tend to exaggerate their productivity levels at work, and the workplace is most effective when communication quality is at its peak. This includes when information about organizational policies and procedures is readily accessible, accurate, timely, relevant, and sufficient, which usually leads to positive feedback and high ratings (Abushawish, 2015). However, only the largest organizations today have truly prioritized effective communication in the workplace. A common misconception among management is that communication is a simple task anyone can handle, but evidence contradicts this belief. The sustainability of an organization largely depends on how well communication is maintained. A significant challenge arises when organizational leaders believe that simply informing employees about daily activities is enough to maintain communication. Ahmad (2020) states that employees benefit from two-way communication, which helps them develop a sense of purpose and meet their socio-emotional needs by working in a way that benefits the company. Pradeep (2021) observes that although management has started using workplace journals or magazines to engage employees, other vital communication channels are not being used effectively. He highlights that such publications lack political impact necessary for an organization's survival; instead, fostering two-way communication is crucial to boost employee motivation. Open communication and involving staff in policy formulation can significantly enhance an organization's success. This involvement in turn restores overall employee loyalty and productivity to desirable levels. Communication gaps between management and employees may lead to feelings of mistrust, disrespect, or a lack of appreciation among workers. Research indicates that employees are the most valuable asset of any organization, and managers are therefore responsible for promoting two-way communication to improve not only organizational performance but also employee productivity. Ethical internal coordination is essential for initiating developmental projects, efficiently consolidating resources, and recruiting, nurturing, and evaluating personnel. Furthermore, external communication is necessary for management to engage effectively with customers, suppliers, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Thus, interaction with consumers is also crucial. The importance of communication cannot be overstated; it functions as the critical system that determines the overall success of an organization. In light of this, this study aims to explore the impact of good relationships among workers on their overall performance. 1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM According to Huang (2019), employee engagement is a critical and indispensable activity within organizations. Communication fosters the development of relationships, which are essential for the long-term survival of any business. Communication is also identified as a key factor in organizational success. Working cultures vary widely in terms of geography, economic development, and social progress, leading to differences in communication dynamics. Some organizations have complex reporting structures that can confuse employees; for example, overlapping responsibilities might result in subordinates having more authority than their supervisors. Research shows that effective communication aids employees in coordinating tasks and achieving organizational objectives. It plays an important role throughout socialization, decision-making, problem-solving, and change management processes, ensuring that group members work collaboratively toward shared goals. Most organizations focus on identifying the most effective communication channels for their members. Therefore, this study seeks to investigate the impact of good relationships among workers on their overall performance. 1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY The general objective of the study is the effect of positive interpersonal relationships among employees on their overall job performance .
